Got my absentee ballot earlier in the week, so tonight I voted. If you're in King County and want an idea of how to vote on the various positions and candidates, see The Stranger Election Control Board Endorsements. It gives a brief explanation of who they're endorsing and why. And if you don't care about the "why" and just care about the "who", there's also a handy short-form cheat sheet. Couldn't be easier. Now, vote!

700 Club's Robertson: "Islam is not a religion, it is a political system ... bent on world domination"
"It masquerades as a religion, but the religion covers a worldwide attempt to exercise power and to subjugate the world to their way of thinking."
(emphasis mine) And this differs from Robertson's brand of christian funny-mentalism how exactly?
Oh, and bonus points for this: "And you better understand that Christianity is the way to freedom and not to slavery."
Yeah, you *better* understand it! You better, or else! Or else what, Mr. Robertson? *scoffs*

Don't forget about the upcoming shows by The Muses starting this Saturday. Also, they will, in fact, be playing at noon on Monday at the Irish Festival at Seattle Center. And I see that they have also added a gig on Saturday, 3/22 at the Kirkland Public Library at 2PM. So there's lots of opportunities for folks to go see free Celtic music. That's right, *free*, so there's no excuse not to go to a show!
The Muses are returning to Seattle for their annual St. Patrick's Day trek through the Pacific Northwest. They're playing several shows in the area, including:
Saturday 3/15 Arlington Public Library @ 2PM
Sunday 3/16 Bellevue Public Library @ 2PM
Monday 3/17 Snoqualmie Public Library @ 7PM
Tuesday 3/18 Mountlake Terrace Public Library @ 7PM
Friday 3/21 Manchester Public Library @ 7PM
All library shows are *free* and are 1 hour long. They're also *very* kid-friendly (Matt plays lots of weird-looking instruments that usually fascinate wee bairns).
I could have sworn Tanya said they were also playing at Seattle Center *on* St Patrick's Day proper, but it's not on the schedule at their site, so I don't know what's up with that.
I'll be going to the Sunday show in Bellevue, and *possibly* the Monday evening show in Snoqualmie. Can't make the Tuesday show, as I'll be headed to the airport to pick up
aineotter who will be coming in to town for Norwescon.
Edited to add: the Friday 3/21 show and to correct show times I had listed as 8PM, the shows *start* at 7PM, and *end* at 8pm. I'd hate for anyone to miss a show on account of I'm an idiot...

So
angilong convinced me to hang out at Conflikt I Saturday evening. Got to see S.J. Tucker again (and tried not to get all fanboy on her afterwards), and some other folks, and hung out for open filking afterwards. It was a blast. Now, it seems that this filking thing is actually something I've been doing for *years* and just never realized it. As I left Saturday night, a filk was writing itself in my head. I'd had plans to go see
lady_equine this afternoon, but she called to tell me that it had started snowing horribly where they were and warned me not to come. With the afternoon free, I decided to go back down to the filk con, where more fun was had, and the filk that was writing itself in my head was finished enough to the point that I later stood up in open filking and sang, in public, the following:
(To the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean")
I went to a filk con last weekend
My girlfriend said she'd like to go
So I drove all the way down to Renton
To check out this strange filking show
And what did I find when I got there?
A circle of filk-singing geeks
Singing songs about zombies and werewolves
How did I end up with these freaks?
CHORUS:
Conflikt, conflikt, you've turned me into a fen!
Conflikt, conflikt, I think that I'll come back again!
Yeah, I pre-registered for Conflikt II next year and plan to attend the whole thing. Let the fun and filk begin!
